SkyJump Las Vegas

Every so often I like to do something a bit out of character. Most recently, it was the SkyJump.  The SkyJump at the Stratosphere is a controlled 855 foot free fall. It is the only  SkyJump in North America and the tallest one in the world.

It is similar to skydiving except that you don’t have to worry about pulling a cord or being blown off course. The guide wires of the SkyJump make sure that you fall straight down and don’t swing into the building. As you get close to the ground, the descender machine slows you down for a controlled landing. The free fall aspect of it is also similar to bungee jumping without the recoil. Physically, the SkyJump is a low impact, low stress ride. Mentally, that first step is a doozy. Continue reading

Table Game Comps and Tiers

One of the things that came up during the Gambling With An Edge radio show was how casinos view table games. Slot machines are the casino’s money makers. Table games are offered because of public demand. They still have a house edge, but from a business standpoint many casinos would be happy to replace all but their high limit table games with slot machines. This impacts how they treat table games in terms of comps and tier advancement.

Here are a few things to consider.
Achieving Mlife’s Pearl status requires 25,000 Tier Points. That is:

$25,000 coin in on VP
$7,500 coin in on slots
About 11 hours of $100 per hand blackjack.
Or just $1000 in dining, entertainment, spa or lodging expenses.
Note that with the purchases you only get tier points. You do not get comps. Continue reading

Hyatt and MGM Resorts Announce New Partnership

Following the recent Southwest and Mlife partnership, comes news of a new partnership between Hyatt’s Gold Passport loyalty club and MGM Resorts’ Mlife players club.

Starting June 20, 2013, MGM Resorts hotels can be booked through Hyatt.com.
Hyatt Gold Passport members will earn Passport Points and get special benefits at MGM Resorts destinations and Mlife members will be able to earn Mlife Tier Credits for Hyatt stays.

In August, a tier matching program will begin where members with a high tier in one club will be given the reciprocal tier status in the other club.
